Job Description

Mechanical Detailer

Commercial Duct Systems is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Mechanical Detailer to join our team. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone who is comfortable working with computers, enjoys working with technical information, and takes pride in producing accurate, organized work.

The Mechanical Detailer is responsible for reviewing mechanical construction drawings, identifying and extracting ductwork for fabrication, and preparing spool drawings and related documentation to support field installation and coordination.

No prior mechanical, HVAC, or ductwork experience is required. Comprehensive training will be provided on our processes, software, and fabrication requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Review mechanical construction drawings and specifications to identify ductwork and related components.
  • Interpret architectural and mechanical plans, sections, details, schedules, and notes.
  • Extract ductwork dimensions, quantities, locations, and other information required for fabrication.
  • Prepare accurate spool drawings and fabrication details for field coordination.
  • Use Bluebeam Revu to review drawings, perform takeoffs, mark up plans, and organize project information.
  • Coordinate ductwork details with project drawings and identify potential conflicts or discrepancies.
  • Communicate questions and potential issues to project management and other members of the detailing team.
  • Maintain organized project files and ensure drawings and takeoffs are complete and accurate.
  • Work efficiently toward project deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Learn and apply Commercial Duct Systems' fabrication standards, procedures, and quality requirements.
QualificationsRequired
  • College level education
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and written instructions.
  • Ability to stay focused on assigned work and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with the team.
  • Reliable and willing to learn.
Experience

Previous experience in mechanical detailing, HVAC, ductwork fabrication, construction, or engineering is not required.

We are willing to train the right candidate. Candidates who demonstrate strong computer skills, attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to learn technical information will be considered.

Experience with Bluebeam Revu, AutoCAD, Revit, or other construction/design software is a plus, but is not required.

Important: This Is Not an Engineering Position

This position is focused on mechanical drawing interpretation, ductwork detailing, fabrication preparation, and field coordination . It does not involve engineering design, engineering calculations, or professional engineering responsibilities.

We are specifically seeking a detail-oriented, computer-proficient individual who wants to develop practical expertise in mechanical detailing and ductwork fabrication . This is not intended to be an engineering or design-engineering role, and candidates seeking an engineering position may not be a good fit.

What We Offer
  • On-the-job training and instruction in mechanical detailing and ductwork fabrication.
  • The opportunity to develop valuable technical and construction-industry skills.
  • A hands-on understanding of how mechanical drawings translate into fabricated ductwork.
  • A professional work environment with opportunities for increased responsibility as your skills develop.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Is highly detail-oriented and notices discrepancies others may overlook.
  • Is comfortable spending much of the workday working on a computer.
